Apply James Alexander Venetian Plaster Primer before James Alexander Venetian Plaster on drywall, previously painted walls and other interior surfaces that aren't naturally porous. It gives the plaster a surface to bond to.

Choosing your primer color: most projects use a primer tinted to match the plaster color.

Which primer do I need?

Step 1: Water-based primer, if needed. New construction drywall, or any surface that would normally need primer before painting, needs a standard water-based primer first. Venetian Plaster Primer is a bonding primer, not a sealing primer.

Step 2: Venetian Plaster Primer. Apply it over the water-based primer, or directly over walls that are already painted.

Step 3: Venetian Plaster. Apply your plaster over the primer.
