Introducing James Alexander Lime Paint: A Modern Take on a Timeless Finish

James Alexander Specialty Paints |

For years, artisans, designers, and homeowners have turned to James Alexander Paint to achieve the classic, chalky, and mottled beauty of our traditional Limewash. This timeless finish, rooted in centuries of history, brings unparalleled texture and depth to any space.

Today, we are thrilled to introduce a new chapter in our story: James Alexander Lime Paint.

This innovative product is our modern interpretation of a classic. It’s designed for those who covet the unique, painterly aesthetic of a mineral finish but desire a richer, simpler application experience.

The Modern Choice: James Alexander Lime Paint

Our new Lime Paint is a mineral paint specifically formulated to provide a rich and smooth application. It bridges the gap between a traditional mineral finish and modern paint technology.

• Rich, Smooth Consistency: Unlike its traditional counterpart, Lime Paint has a thick, smooth, and creamy consistency, similar to modern paint, while maintaining its mineral-based properties.

• Vibrant, Rich Pigmentation: This thicker body allows for rich pigmentation and a wider range of available colors, opening up new design possibilities.

• Simple Application: While it creates the same textured look, Lime Paint is an interior-only product that is designed for ease. It dries to a beautiful, durable matte finish that does not require a Densifier additive to treat chalkiness.

The Authentic Original: James Alexander Limewash

For the purist, our Traditional Limewash Paint remains the classic choice for achieving a truly authentic, old-world finish.

 •  Traditional Recipe: True to its heritage, our Limewash has a thin, milk-like consistency. This is a hallmark of the traditional recipe.

•  Earthy, Mineral Palette: The colors are created exclusively with mineral pigments resulting in a range of subtle and earthy tones that are uniquely characteristic of true limewash.

 • Interior & Exterior Versatility: This is our go-to product for both interior walls and exterior masonry applications, where it creates a finish that patinas beautifully over time.

•   Authentic Finish: Limewash dries to a more chalky finish. For interior walls, we recommend using the James Alexander Limewash Densifier to create a less chalky, more durable surface.

The Beauty They Share

Despite their differences, both Lime Paint and Limewash are designed to create the same iconic, painterly effect.

• The Signature Look: Both products deliver the mottled and textured matte finish that is the hallmark of lime-based paints.

• Application Technique: To achieve this look, both products are applied with a block brush using a cross-hatch or directional pattern. This technique is what creates the beautiful variations in tone and texture.

• The Right Foundation: For application on interior drywall, both Lime Paint and Limewash should be applied over James Alexander Lime-Prep Primer to ensure proper adhesion and a uniform finish.
