Florida's humidity is the reason mineral finishes make sense here, and also the reason to apply them with care. Most Florida homes are block and stucco that's already painted, so the best place for lime is usually inside.
The short version
- Painted stucco exterior: not a limewash surface. Our primers are interior only.
- Interior walls: Lime-Prep, then limewash or Lime Paint.
- Humidity: coats take longer to dry. Wait until each is dry to the touch.
- Bathrooms: fine on most walls, never in the shower.

Can I limewash my home's exterior?

The outdoor rule: Outdoors, limewash goes only on bare brick, stone, concrete or cement stucco. Lime-Prep, Densifier and sealer are interior products, so a painted or sealed exterior can't be limewashed. Lime Paint is interior only. For exterior work, apply when it will stay at least 40°F for 24 hours, and keep the limewash from getting wet for at least 24–48 hours after you apply (3–4 days is ideal).
The Florida climate and your project
Give each coat time.
Humid air slows drying. Don't go by the clock: wait until each coat is dry to the touch, and longer on muggy days.
Mold resistant by nature.
Limewash has a naturally high pH, which makes it mold resistant. Pair it with good ventilation, especially in bathrooms.
Outdoors, pick your window.
For bare masonry, apply early or late in the day, keep the surface lightly misted, and avoid afternoons when storms are likely. Limewash needs at least 24–48 hours without rain after application, and 3–4 days is ideal; getting it wet too soon can make it streak and run.
Air conditioning helps indoors. Running the AC lowers indoor humidity, which helps coats dry evenly. Keep coats thin and work each wall corner to corner.
